If it’s the whole house being refurbished and taken apart then probably not. You could look at phasing the works to allow you to remain in part of the the house whilst the builder works in other parts but I would suggest looking at the uplift in building costs doing this vs. moving out.
Oh, the dust!
Being brutally honest not everyone is cut out to live in a building site, (and that is the reality of it. I kid you not, having done it myself with 2 young kids). The dust and living off a camping stove and microwave for months is not everyone’s cup of tea. Additionally, if you work from home, noise is going to be a big issue so you may want to consider either working in the office or somewhere else. If you’re not a camping person then you’re probably not someone who is going to find it easy to live in.
Impact on time.
If you live in your house during building work it most likely will extend the builder’s programme (time on site) which will make his weekly running costs higher. They have to work around you which takes them longer to complete work. Sometimes it is better to get out so they can get on with it. You should budget for the cost of renting if you do move out. How long for? That depends on the length of the building programme.
