Our client recently purchased this Grade II* listed Buckingham cottage with parts dating back to the Tudor and Georgian period.
The brief was to create an extension the existing listed Georgian part of the building located to the side of the house located in the county of Buckinghamshire. This space was an existing family room. The brief was to create a larger, naturally lite and bright living and dining room. Internally there it was to feel contemporary, whilst respecting the scale and materiality of the existing listed cottage. The extension had to externally be sensitive to the Grade II* listed cottage and the surrounding village townscape.
Working closely with the conservation officer we came up with a solution that satisfied the planners and gave our clients their dream home.

Additionally, the extension was to have a vaulted ceiling to give additional head height and feeling of space.
Timber framed sliding folding doors and a series of conservation rooflights flood the space with natural light., whilst respecting the proportions of the existing property.
The client was keen to incorporate a green European oak timber frame to compliment the original timber frame Tudor House. This was supplied and installed by Willow Bank Joinery.
Externally we maintained the same brick work using reclaimed brickwork with lime mortar and clay tiles to the roof.
